When you’re having a tough time in life it can be hard to see the good in any situation. At least if you’re feeling how I did a few weeks ago when I project I had been working on, spending money and countless hours, persistently for months fell through because of reasons beyond my control. You start to believe that nothing can change and you begin to feel ‘stuck.’ Maybe things didn’t work out the way you expected. The right opportunities never came along.
It doesn’t matter the reason, what matters is that it is holding you back. Failure leads to multiple learning opportunities to becoming who you are meant to be. Feeling ‘stuck’ comes from a place of fear and limits. You begin to fear failure and avoid situations where it is a possibility. No one wants to ever say aloud, “I fear success,” because it seems awkward to say. Everyone wants to be successful. We all work to have things that we want and to live an independent life. However there are many other factors that can try to hold us back from reaching our full potential including being afraid to fail.
Disappointments can be hard to accept. When plans don’t workout resentment will develop. The anger from resentment that is left over, however, eventually can lead to never trying anything new again. It can leave us paralyzed from wanting to continue with our true goals. The fear of failure grows and then takes root in our lives.
There is no greater way to stagnant your personal and professional growth than by succumbing to your fear. Fear is complex because it is situational and only the individual truly knows what they are afraid of on the path to their success. If you want massive success be prepared that you will face massive fear. Success is not as overwhelming as the looming imaginary fear and limits we placed on our own capabilities. It is also not selfish to want more for yourself.
The truth about fear is that it is the perception of what we feel we don’t deserve. The good news is that fear is a natural response to change so no need to run or hide. Fear is a part of the process. It is natural for your mind to put up resistance to change.
Fear is uncertainty about what doesn’t exist yet. Faith is the same, but trusting that it will turn out for the best. So, instead of imagining scenarios of what you don’t want, choose to focus on what you do want.
Our minds are designed to operate on routines. It is in our nature to be repetitive. That is why when something happens to us that throws off our daily routine. Which is why change can be hard to accept and follow through on completing your goals. Having fear does not make you a coward, it makes you smart. The most common belief is that fear can be controlled. In some instances this is true, however the majority of the time fear is involuntary.
The bigger the challenge the more fear you will encounter, which is why it is essential you do learn how to maintain some control. Nervousness, negative thoughts, and sweaty palms are all examples of symptoms fear can cause. Learn to embrace those feelings and use them as fuel to excel.
Whether you are trying to improve on your public speaking skills or starting the company you’ve always envisioned. If you’re not careful your fear will keep you ‘stuck.’ It is important to identify it and face the fear that is keeping you from quitting the job you hate, starting that project, or building your business.
Those negative thoughts are a product of that resistance to change. It is true that there is a small piece of you that doesn’t want things to change. Not only should you be mindful of your thoughts, you need to identify the source of the fear. Break your fears down into bite size points that can you can evaluate to overcome them. A place to start is by asking yourself: Are you having fear of failure, fear of change, or fear of success? The most common thing among my clients is that they all start the process with limiting beliefs.
Beliefs that they have held onto since their childhood. Limiting beliefs are ideas you adopt to be true that could be hindering you from seeing possibility. For example, the beautiful dancer who was once raised to believed she could only become a lawyer. Limiting beliefs are those which constrain us in some way. Just by believing them, we do not think, do or say the things that they inhibit. And in doing so we impoverish our lives.
We all have our own beliefs about rights, duties, abilities, permissions and so on. Limiting beliefs are often about our selves and our self-identity. The beliefs may also be about other people and the world in general.Shift your mindset into believing that the impossible is possible. At one point my limiting beliefs held me back from pursuing goals that would have advanced my career. However I was able to combat that by developing an abundance mindset. The reality is the sky is the limit. Your mindset is the key to unlocking your full potential and realizing your true purpose.
You can go beyond the vision you have for your life. What is for you is already yours. There is no competition. You are standing in your own way.
Even if you had a vision for your life or were conditioned to believe only one career path could be right for you; it is never too late to change your mindset. Start with building an abundance mindset and creating habits that will breed success. Incorporate more of the things you love into your daily routine.
